James Simpson "Jim" Herron |
PARENTS: James Simpson "Jim" Herron was born on November 4, 1848, in Carrollton, Caroll County, Georgia, to Thomas Simpson Herron and Arminda Hall (1-8). He was the oldest child of eight born to his parents (1-23). His siblings include Hiram (July 25, 1850-September 18, 1909), Charity (May 17, 1852-July 25, 1857), D.F. (July 8, 1854-August 8, 1857), Jane (February 4, 1857-February 4, 1940), Pierce (January 4, 1860-September 15, 1902), Green Grant (July 23, 1862-January 5, 1925), and Missouri Herron (April 13, 1864-October 16, 1945) (4-23).
FIRST MARRIAGE/CHILDREN: In approximately 1872, Jim married Clara Annie "Carrie" McCracken in an unknown location. Born December 8, 1844, in Cass County, Georgia, the belief is that Carrie was the daughter of Unknown McCracken and Permelia Unknown (24-35). Jim and Carrie had four children together: Arminda Pamelia (August 20, 1873-August 31, 1961), Harriet Laura (March 9, 1876-November 14, 1959), Missouri Jane (June 5, 1880-December 8, 1904), and J.D. Herron (March 20, 1884-March 20, 1884) (4-8, 37-51). Carrie died on September 14, 1895, in Eldridge, Walker County, Alabama (24). Her interment is at Kansas Cemetery in Kansas, Walker County, Alabama (24).

SECOND MARRIAGE/CHILDREN: After Carrie's death, Jim remarried on December 2, 1897, in Fayette County, Alabama, Thomas Sherman McCaleb's widow, Rosetta Catherine "Rosa" Webster (52-54). Thomas and Sherman had two sons, and so, Jim gained two stepsons through their marriage, Thomas Sherman (March 1, 1897-October 15, 1971) and Dee McCaleb (April 5, 1890-November 23, 1984) (54-56). Born on October 23, 1872, in Vernon, Lamar County, Alabama, Rosetta was the daughter of Martha Van Buren Webster and Martha Polly Ann "Mary" South (57-63). Jim and Rosetta had three children together, Myrtle (December 24, 1898-January 5, 1991), Arthur (February 23, 1901-August 19, 1904), and George Herron (June 7, 1906-August 9, 1992) (4-8, 64-86).
DEATH: On October 21, 1935, Jim passed away in Eldridge, leaving Rosetta a window for nearly twenty-five years (1-3, 87-88). On July 11, 1960, in Winfield, Marion County, Alabama, Rosetta joined Jim in death (57-59). Jim and Rosetta's interments are in Kelley Cemetery in Eldridge, Walker County, Alabama (1, 57).
ABOUT: Jim was a well-known farmer in Walker County for the majority of his life.
