PARENTS/SIBLINGS: Esther Louise Herron was born on January 31, 1915, (based on hearsay) in Walker County, Alabama [1-9]. She was the eighth child of ten children born to James Thomas Herron (May 21, 1879-July 28, 1966) and Mintie Ardonia "Ann" Cheatham (July 1880-June 16, 1951) [6-28]. Esther's siblings are the following:

  1. Mamie Ethel Herron, b. September 30, 1900, Carbon Hill, Walker County, Alabama, USA; d. April 20, 1972, Jasper, Walker County, Alabama, USA.
  2. Walter James Herron, b. September 10, 1902, Carbon Hill, Walker County, Alabama, USA; d. July 13, 1970, Merrillville, Lake County, Indiana, USA.
  3. Clarence Herron, b. June 04, 1904, Pocahontas, Walker County, Alabama, USA; d. April 20, 1986, Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama, USA.
  4. Flossie Herron, b. February 12, 1906, Carbon Hill, Walker County, Alabama, USA; d. December 07, 1996, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA.
  5. Edgar Herron, b. February 01, 1908, Carbon Hill, Walker County, Alabama, USA; d. June 07, 2005, Nauvoo, Walker County, Alabama, USA.

MARRIAGE: On November 25, 1934, in Mississippi County, Arkansas, Esther married Charlie Underwood [29-33]. Born September 22, 1914, in Saltillo, Lee County, Mississippi, Charlie was the son of John Benjamin Underwood and Aronie "Rona" "Nona" Hatley [34-45].

  3. Bobby Charles Underwood, b. September 12, 1939, Carbon Hill, Walker County, Alabama, USA; d. January 17, 1997, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA.
  4. Larry Wayne Underwood, b. December 06, 1948, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA; d. December 07, 1948, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA.
  5. Sherry Carmen Underwood, b. December 15, 1952, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA; d. September 25, 2013, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA.

DEATH: At 88, on November 13, 2003, sadly, Esther passed away in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama [1-9, 64]. Charlie departed on April 22, 1992, in Birmingham at 77 years old [38-45, 65]. Charlie and Esther's interments are in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Adamsville, Jefferson County, Alabama [65,65].

So metimes, I question God's purposes and plans. However, they are something I have always believed in. Every week, as I am flipping through our television channels, inevitably flashed before me is a televangelist preaching from his camera-lit pulpit. For the most part, the thematic summation of the sermons is that if you pray hard enough, live totally without sin, and, of course, tithe, you will see the pearly gates of heaven. It usually emphasizes that if you follow those three simple instructions (especially to tithe), you will be rewarded with peace and prosperity here on Earth. Of course, their belief system is hugely flawed. Skimmed over are the verses within the white pages of the Bible that express that none of us are without sin and that only God's child, Jesus, is perfect and flawless. They ignore the stories within the Bible foretelling the trials and tribulations endured by God's apostles and others merely to fulfill God's purpose, God's plan. In
